They LOVE Human & Pet Companionship
Labradors are notorious for their outgoing and friendly personality, and that’s no surprise. Who wouldn’t love to have a dog that not only gets along well with adults and children of all ages, but with other animals as well, including cats?
Think of how much easier it’d be to get around the neighborhood where there are children, cats, other dogs, etc. on every corner.
They’re a Versatile Working Breed
Labradors are truly an inspiration in the working dog community. They are one of the most utilized dogs for work and have not let us down. Some of the jobs they carry out include; search and rescue, police work, detection (bombs, chemicals, etc.), service work (guiding/assisting people with different impairments), and the list goes on. A great example is a world-wide famous Labrador named Endal. He was able to get his owner to safety after being knocked off of his wheelchair, cover him with a blanket, and get help close by…on TWO occasions.
Labs Enjoy ALL Outdoor Activities
With Labs, you never have to worry about whether they can withstand the environment or if they’re up for an outdoor trip. They are ALWAYS happy to go camping, hiking, compete in sports, and especially love going swimming. In short, they’re an all-around fun dog that you can take just about anywhere.
Training is a Breeze
Labrador Retrievers rank at number 7 out of 131 breeds in the book “The Intelligence of Dogs,” by Stanley Coren. This proves what everyone already knew all along; they are very, very smart. It only takes showing them a command such as “sit” or “down” four to five times for them to learn it, which is amazing! So, if done correctly, training should be quite easy with this breed.
Labradors are NOT Picky Eaters
Lastly, the one thing that Labradors absolutely do not lack is an appetite, unlike other breeds which will not be mentioned (*cough, Chihuahuas). Yes, this can be dangerous if owners over-feed their real life garbage disposals. But for the most part, it is a blessing, especially when medications have to be given. Heck, some even swallow the pills whole without any food!
